BIG QUESTION lately........... is Emu Oil ORGANIC????
The short answer is No, BUT that does not mean you are not getting something that is ALMOST ORGANIC.
Why?
Because many emu growers and most, if not all, of the American Emu Association Emu growers do all they can to raise their emus as natural, clean, and chemical free as possible. We give them quality food to allow them to produce many healthy chicks and to be able to provide quality raw products - meat, fat for oil, leather, feathers, etc. Emus naturally do not need shots, vaccinations, etc. They may receive anti-biotics if very sick; and of course are not processed until long after the proper time frame. They are raised in clean and roomy pens, also.
Currently there are not any emus raised certified organic by the correct definition in the world. One of the main reasons for not being able to be organic is because the food we feed our emus are not certified organic grains. Some folks because of where they live, are unable to get quality emu feed and use what is in the local feed stores and may add (top dress) a grain to their feed. OR we will have a grain ration made for us at a local elevator, most do not have certified organic grains to make the feed. Or there are a few who make their own feed, but are not certified organic grain farmers.
EMU OIL - when emu fat is processed and refined properly with quality and safety in mind. It is as close to organic as possible.
